Overtime hero Wyatt Johnston seals Game 3 victory in graveyard shift

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Dallas Stars secured their first win of the postseason in a thrilling 3-2 overtime finish against the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night. After falling behind 2-0 in the series, the Stars fought back and Wyatt Johnston scored the game-winner with under five minutes left in the first overtime period.

The Stars shone in overtime, showcasing their improved performance in extra time compared to last year’s playoffs. Johnston’s sharp-angle goal sealed the victory for Dallas, who controlled the overtime period and outshot Vegas 8-7. Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy acknowledged Dallas’ execution and urgency in overtime, leading to their success.

Dallas fired on all cylinders throughout the game, generating a significant shot advantage of 46-34. The Stars dominated the first period with an 18-7 shot advantage and 11-0 in high-danger chances. Despite cooling off in the third period, Dallas remained the more aggressive team overall, which paid off in the end.

Line changes made by Stars coach Pete DeBoer paid dividends, with all four lines looking solid and contributing to the team’s success. The new top line of Robertson, Johnston, and Hintz proved to be the most dangerous, while the third line of Seguin, Pavelski, and Dadonov showcased stunning passing and offensive prowess.

Goalie Logan Thompson put on a clinic for Vegas, making 43 saves and keeping his team in the game with several key stops. Despite Thompson’s stellar performance, Dallas managed to secure the win thanks to Johnston’s overtime heroics.

Special teams struggles continued for Dallas, as they went 0-for-2 on power play chances and allowed two goals while shorthanded. Despite their advantage on special teams during the regular season, Dallas will need to improve in that area to continue their success in the series.
