Pacers Reportedly Interested in Signing Key Player for the Long Term

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Indiana Pacers may have fallen short in the Eastern Conference Finals, but their season was nothing short of successful. Despite low expectations at the start, the Pacers emerged as a potent and exciting team, especially after acquiring Pascal Siakam in a midseason trade.

One standout player for the Pacers this season was backup point guard T.J. McConnell. Pacers GM Chad Buchanan expressed the team’s desire to extend McConnell’s contract so he can spend the rest of his career with the organization. McConnell, a nine-year veteran, had a career-high season, averaging 10.2 points and 5.5 assists per game.

During the playoffs, McConnell proved his value as a key contributor off the bench, especially when Tyrese Haliburton was injured. In Game 3 of the East finals, McConnell scored 23 points and followed up with 15 points in Game 4.

Looking ahead, the Pacers have a competitive roster and are aiming to address weaknesses in defense and rebounding. With Siakam on board for a full training camp next season, the team is poised for improvement. Despite falling short this season, the Pacers led the NBA in scoring, field-goal percentage, and assists, showcasing their offensive firepower.

With potential roster tweaks in the summer, the Pacers could be a serious contender for a spot in the NBA Finals next season. Fans can expect an exciting and competitive team as the Pacers gear up for the upcoming season.
