Pakistan urges Afghanistan to hand over terrorists responsible for attack on Chinese workers

Pakistan has called on Afghanistan’s Taliban government to hand over Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists responsible for a deadly attack on Chinese workers, as reported by Geo TV. The attack occurred in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where an explosives-laden vehicle targeted a bus carrying Chinese workers, resulting in six fatalities, including five Chinese nationals.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the importance of Afghanistan cooperating with Pakistan in apprehending the militants involved in the attack. The investigation report revealed that the TTP orchestrated the terror incident from inside Afghanistan, prompting Pakistan to seek justice for the victims.

In response to the tragic event, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of Pakistan’s Cabinet approved a compensation package of $2.58 million for the families of the deceased Chinese workers. Each family will receive $516,000 as a goodwill gesture from the Pakistani government.

The attack on Chinese workers is a stark reminder of the security challenges faced by foreign personnel working on projects in Pakistan, particularly those associated with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The TTP, a militant group formed in 2007, has targeted Chinese nationals in the past, accusing them of exploiting resources in the region.

Despite Pakistan’s efforts to address the cross-border terrorism issue with Afghanistan, the Afghan Taliban’s reluctance to take action against TTP fighters operating from Afghan soil has strained relations between the two countries. Pakistan’s hope that the Afghan Taliban would cooperate in combating terrorism has not materialized, leading to increased tensions in the region.
