In a bold statement made in the Pakistani Parliament, Syed Mustafa Kamal, a lawmaker from the MQM-P party, drew attention to the stark contrast between the lack of basic amenities in Karachi and India’s recent success in executing the Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission.

Kamal lamented the tragic reality that while India was making strides in space exploration, children in Karachi were losing their lives due to open gutters. He emphasized the urgent need for improved infrastructure and services in Pakistan’s largest city.

Highlighting the scarcity of fresh water in Karachi, Kamal pointed out that the city, with a population of nearly 20.3 million, was facing significant challenges in providing essential resources to its residents. He criticized the hoarding of water by the tanker mafia, exacerbating the crisis.

Moreover, Kamal raised concerns about the alarming number of children not attending school in Sindh province, where Karachi is located, as well as nationwide. He cited a report indicating the presence of thousands of “ghost schools” and millions of children missing out on education, urging leaders to address this pressing issue.

These remarks by Kamal come in the wake of similar observations made by other Pakistani politicians, such as Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who highlighted the economic disparities between India and Pakistan. The contrasting realities between the two countries underscore the need for urgent action to address the challenges faced by Karachi and its residents.
