LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County boys tennis team put up a strong fight against Central Dauphin East on Monday, but ultimately fell short with a 3-2 loss to the Panthers.
In doubles play, Morgan Crader and Logan Breneman secured a victory for the Huskies by defeating Panthers Prajal Basnet and Aiden Cooper with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Hudson Sellers and Gino Zannino also contributed to Mifflin County’s effort by defeating Panthers Timmy Pitzner and Nolan Lerch with a score of 7-6, 6-0 (7-4).
In singles action, Leo Fure of CDE defeated Landon Mazur with a score of 6-1, 6-1. Ankit Mager secured another win for the Panthers by defeating Luke Foltz with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
Despite the loss, the Huskies showed determination and skill on the court. The team, with a record of 0-9, will face Northern today at 4 p.m. and will host Cumberland Valley on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
In other sports news, the Juniata boys track team faced a tough competition against Susquenita, resulting in a loss of 88-62. The girls team also faced defeat with a score of 35 points. Coach Maisie Aumiller praised the team’s strong performances and highlighted individual achievements in various events.
Mifflin County softball team secured a 5-3 victory against Central Mountain, with Dakota Hershberger leading the offense with a home run and four RBIs. Piper Specht pitched a complete game for the Huskies, allowing six hits and three runs.
In girls lacrosse, Mifflin County suffered a loss to Danville with a score of 28-1. Mara Gallo scored the lone goal for the Huskies.
Lastly, the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for wrestling will take place at Bryce Jordan Center, featuring top athletes like Trent Hidlay and Aaron Brooks. Patrick Downey, a former MMA fighter, will also return to wrestling for the trials.
