Northern Bedford edges Bishop Guilfoyle in extra-inning thriller

In a thrilling first-round matchup at the Altoona Curve Classic, Northern Bedford’s baseball team narrowly defeated Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic in extra innings. The game was full of dramatic moments that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

One key play that stood out was in the top of the fourth inning when Hamilton Gates appeared to steal home, but the run was nullified as the BG batter was called out on a third strike before Gates crossed the plate. Later in the game, with the bases loaded and one out, Lex Dixon hit a ball that looked like it would be a game-changing hit, but Northern Bedford’s Aaron Bowers made an incredible leaping catch to turn it into a double play.

Northern Bedford coach Ryan Cherry praised Bowers for his phenomenal play, which helped secure the win for his team. The game ultimately went into extra innings, where Northern Bedford sealed the victory with a walk-off walk.

Both teams put up a strong fight, with Bishop Guilfoyle’s Kade Sell delivering a standout performance on the mound with nine strikeouts. Despite the loss, Bishop Guilfoyle coach Tommy Williams commended his team for their effort and resilience throughout the game.

Northern Bedford will now advance to the semifinals to face Central, while Bishop Guilfoyle will take on Northern Cambria in a consolation game. The intense matchup between these two teams showcased the competitive spirit and talent of high school baseball players in the area.
