Navy Men’s Tennis Player Sasha Panyan Named Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Second Consecutive Year
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Sasha Panyan, a senior at the United States Naval Academy, has been named the 2024 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men’s tennis for the second year in a row. The league office announced this prestigious accolade today, along with the all-academic team selections.
Panyan, who is majoring in cyber operations, maintained an impressive 3.65 cumulative GPA while leading the Navy men’s tennis team as captain this season. On the court, he excelled with a combined singles and doubles record of 37-24 overall, earning first-team all-league honors.
Throughout his collegiate career, Panyan has achieved remarkable success, ranking in the top 10 in Navy history for career wins in both singles and doubles matches. He has also been recognized as a three-time all-league recipient and has won all five major individual awards in the Patriot League.
Not only is Panyan the fourth Navy men’s tennis player to receive the scholar-athlete award in multiple years, but he is also the eighth Mid to be named scholar-athlete of the year for the sport. His outstanding achievements have contributed to Navy’s dominance in the league, as they have now secured the scholar-athlete award for eight consecutive seasons, setting a new record in league history.
