Paramount Global, National Amusements, and Skydance Media Engage in Sale Negotiations

Paramount Global shares are on the rise as talks of a potential deal with Skydance Media gain momentum. The stock price surged by 15 percent on Wednesday, just before the market closed, following reports from The Wall Street Journal about exclusive negotiations between Paramount and Skydance.

The agreement, led by Shari Redstone’s National Amusements, could pave the way for a significant sale of the media and entertainment empire controlled by Redstone. Bloomberg also reported a “tentative” agreement between the companies on a deal.

Skydance, known for collaborating on blockbuster film franchises like Mission: Impossible and Top Gun, has expressed interest in acquiring National Amusements, which is controlled by Redstone. The combined company would then purchase the publicly traded Paramount.

Redstone, who took over NAI after her father’s passing, is looking to sell Paramount Global in one piece to maximize the deal’s value. The conglomerate, formed in 2019 through the re-combination of Viacom and CBS Corp., has faced challenges in the streaming landscape, leading to a recent downgrade in its credit rating.

Despite industry-wide challenges like cord-cutting, Paramount’s stock has seen a 20 percent decline in market value this year. NAI has also addressed debt issues with a strategic investment to reduce financial burdens.

Skydance, backed by investors like KKR and Tencent, is positioning itself for a potential acquisition that could reshape the entertainment industry. As negotiations continue, the future of Paramount Global hangs in the balance, with stakeholders eagerly awaiting the outcome of these talks.
