Parents and students in Cy-Fair ISD point fingers at Gov. Abbott for budget crisis

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Cy-Fair Independent School District (ISD) community is rallying together to demand funding for public schools from Governor Greg Abbott. Speaker Ally Fitzpatrick emphasized the need for meaningful change and urged Abbott to listen to their pleas for financial support.

Fitzpatrick called on Abbott to call a special session to address the funding crisis that is affecting schools in the district. She criticized Abbott for prioritizing vouchers over funding public education and called on him to defend the district against the state legislature and the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

Cy-Fair ISD mother Tara Cummings echoed Fitzpatrick’s sentiments, blaming Abbott and Republican officials for holding public schools hostage in a standoff over vouchers. She urged the community to send a clear message to the Republican party that funding for public education is non-negotiable.

Seventh-grade student Zoe Lang also spoke out, highlighting the importance of school librarians like Lauren Crites in creating a safe and supportive environment for students. She questioned the value placed on a child’s life in the face of budget cuts, urging decision-makers to prioritize education funding.

The Cy-Fair ISD board will continue to address the budget issues at their upcoming meeting on May 6. The community remains united in their call for action and is determined to fight for the resources needed to support their schools and students.
