Parents in Matungulu express worries about school reopening plans – Education News

As preparations for school reopening on Monday are ongoing, Matungulu Sub-county parents have expressed both concerns and hopes for the upcoming term. The recent postponement due to flooding has left many wondering about the readiness of schools after the flood menace.

One of the parents, Sila Makau, shared his worries, saying that some schools in the area are still marooned in floodwater. He cited Caring Hearts High School and St Mary’s Tala Boys Primary School. “The flooding has not fully receded in some schools. How will our children learn effectively in such conditions with classrooms filled by floodwaters?” posed Makau.

On the other hand, Silas Mutiso, a local community leader, remains optimistic, stating that education has to go on but the government should ensure the safety of the children. He stressed the need for education stakeholders to come together and ensure learning resumes smoothly.

“We are working closely with education officials to ensure that necessary measures are in place before schools reopen. Our priority is the safety and well-being of our children,” he said.

These contrasting views reflect the mixed reactions within the community. While some express concerns about the immediate challenges posed by the flooding, others are hopeful that concerted efforts will mitigate these issues.
