Paris is gearing up to offer a culinary experience like no other during the 2024 Olympics, with freshly cooked bread, select cheeses, and a broad veggie offer on the menu for athletes and visitors alike.
French food services company Sodexo Live! has been selected to oversee the catering at the athletes’ village and 14 venues of the Paris Games, creating a total of 500 recipes for the occasion. Renowned French chefs will be serving up gourmet dishes with a “very French touch” to more than 15,000 athletes from 200 different countries.
Athletes will have access to a variety of dining options, including a sit-down eatery for up to 3,500 athletes at the village, which is set to be the “world’s largest restaurant.” Daily specials will include a wide range of salads, pastas, grilled meat, and soups, as well as top-quality French cheeses like camembert and brie.
In an effort to make the Games more sustainable and environmentally friendly, organizers have promised to reduce the use of plastic and use only reusable dishes at the main restaurant in the village. Additionally, 80% of the ingredients used in the meals will come from France, with plant-based food representing 60% of the offer for visitors at the venues.
Visitors to the urban park at the Place de la Concorde will be treated to 100% vegetarian food, a first in the Games’ history. The park will host some of Paris 2024’s most contemporary sporting disciplines, including BMX freestyle, 3×3 basketball, skateboarding, and breakdancing.
With a focus on French cuisine and sustainability, the 2024 Paris Olympics are set to offer a unique culinary experience for athletes and visitors alike.
