Parthiv Patel reflects on Sam Curran’s disappointing season in IPL 2024

Reading Time: < 1 minute

In a season filled with ups and downs, Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Sam Curran’s performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has been a topic of discussion. Former cricketer Parthiv Patel’s assessment of Curran’s season suggests that it was one that the Englishman would likely want to forget.

Throughout the season, Curran struggled to make a significant impact with both bat and ball. With the bat, he scored 270 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of 123.29, falling short of expectations. His bowling performance was also below par, picking up 16 wickets but conceding runs at an economy rate of 10.15.

Despite these challenges, Curran showed his mettle in a recent match against Rajasthan Royals (RR). In a crucial chase, Curran played a captain’s knock, scoring an unbeaten 63 off 41 balls to guide PBKS to a five-wicket victory. Parthiv praised Curran’s ability to perform under pressure and win matches when it mattered most.

In the match, RR posted a total of 144/9, with valuable contributions from Riyan Parag and Ravichandran Ashwin. PBKS’s disciplined bowling, led by Curran, Rahul Chahar, and Harshal Patel, restricted RR’s scoring opportunities.

Despite RR’s loss, they maintain a strong position in the standings with eight wins and five losses, while PBKS sits at the ninth spot with five wins and eight losses. As the IPL 2024 season progresses, Curran will be looking to bounce back stronger and make a bigger impact for his team.
