Pastor injured in brutal attack by Sikh warriors wielding swords

Sikh Warriors Attack Pastor and Christian Brother in Northern India

In a shocking incident in northern India’s Punjab state, a group belonging to a Sikh warrior order attacked a pastor and another Christian with swords and knives for leading church worship in their village. The attack took place on April 18 in Sultanwind village, Amritsar District, leaving both victims severely injured.

The assailants, four Nihang Sikhs who are permitted to carry weapons as members of the traditional warrior group, targeted Pastor Gurjeet Singh, also known as Gurjeet Rinku, and his younger brother, Gurdeep Singh. The attackers accused the Christians of conducting church services and attempting to convert villagers, despite warnings to stop.

The brutal assault left both brothers with deep cuts and severe injuries. Pastor Singh shielded his head with his hands, sustaining cuts on his hands, arms, and almost losing a thumb. Gurdeep Singh also suffered deep cuts on his head, hands, and wrist while trying to protect himself.

The victims were rushed to a hospital in Amritsar, where they were initially refused treatment due to the severity of their injuries. They were later transferred to Christian Medical College & Hospital in Ludhiana for further treatment.

The Singh brothers, who have yet to file a police complaint, have received support from local leaders and the community. Pastor Vishnu Dev expressed his concern over the attack and vowed to demand justice if the authorities fail to take appropriate action.

This incident sheds light on the challenges faced by Christians in India, which has seen a rise in attacks against religious minorities in recent years. The victims, who have been leading the house church for a decade, are in need of prayers and support as they recover from this traumatic event.
