Pella Boys Tennis Completes Qualifying Sweep; Boys Golf Advances to Districts

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, the Pella High School boys tennis team completed a qualifying sweep, securing all available bids for the Class 1A individual state tournament. The Dutch boys dominated the district tournament, with Jack Briggs claiming the singles championship and the doubles team of Cameron Rowe and Joshua Roozeboom emerging victorious in their category. Additionally, Ben Van Gorp and the duo of Nile Rozenboom and Jordan Shaffer secured runner-up positions, earning them spots in the state tournament as well.

This impressive performance marks the second consecutive season that Pella High School has swept the individual boys tennis qualifying tournament, showcasing their dominance in the sport. The team will now turn their focus to the upcoming team postseason journey, set to begin at home on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in Oskaloosa, the Pella boys golf team showcased their talent by winning the 3A sectional meet. Five Dutch players delivered outstanding performances, each shooting in the 70s to secure a team score of 305. Standout performances included Cade McGinley’s 72, Kyler Besick’s 76, AJ Hoekstra’s 78, and 79s from both Cole Floden and Luke Naig.

With this victory, the Pella boys golf team has advanced to the district meet in Williamsburg, where they will aim to secure a spot in the state tournament. The team is determined to make a return to the state tournament for the first time since 2022, showcasing their potential and determination on the golf course.
