Pennsylvania officials are gearing up for Small Business Week, which will take place from April 28 to May 4. To kick off the celebrations, Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Rick Siger, along with New Cumberland Mayor Joan Erney and other local officials, toured downtown New Cumberland to promote shopping at main street businesses.

During the tour, the officials visited several local establishments, including the West Shore Theater, Hanna’s Ice Cream, Oxford Hall Celtic Gift Shop and Cafe, Semoff’s Barber Shop, and iDesign Plastics. Mayor Erney expressed her gratitude for the support of small businesses in the area, highlighting the vibrant and diverse business community in New Cumberland.

President of the New Cumberland Borough Council, Don Kibler, also emphasized the importance of the support received from DCED over the years, noting the positive impact it has had on the community. Governor Josh Shapiro’s administration has proposed adding $25 million to the Main Street Matters program in the 2024-25 budget to further support commercial corridors across Pennsylvania.

State officials are planning to continue promoting small businesses during Small Business Week by visiting other counties, including Northampton, Venango, Delaware, Luzerne, and Somerset. The efforts to support local businesses are crucial for the economic growth and vitality of communities across the state.
