The US aid delivered to Gaza remains undelivered to the Palestinian population as logistical challenges persist, CNN reported on Tuesday. The aid, totaling 569 tons, has been held in an assembly area on shore as the US, Israel, and the UN work to establish safe delivery routes within the enclave.
Desperate Gazans intercepted trucks delivering aid over the weekend, prompting the UN to suspend delivery operations until the challenges are resolved. The US had hoped to transport 500 tons of aid per day via the temporary pier, but the actual amount reaching Gaza has fallen short of initial estimates.
Despite the setbacks, the US is determined to ensure aid reaches those in need. The Pentagon is exploring alternative delivery methods, including land routes, to bypass the logistical challenges faced with the temporary pier.
US officials have also made specific requests to facilitate aid distribution, including bypassing Egypt by sending aid directly to the Israeli port of Ashdod. The US has also conducted air drops of humanitarian aid in partnership with the Royal Jordanian Air Force.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with the entire population of 2.2 million facing acute food insecurity. The US is committed to working with international partners to address the crisis and ensure aid reaches those who need it most.
