Philomath girls secure 5-3 tennis victory over Cascade to conclude district play

The Philomath High School girls tennis team ended their Special District 2 play on a high note with a 5-3 victory against Cascade. This win solidified their 5-1 league record and improved their overall season record to 11-2. The team showcased their skills with standout performances from senior Bailey Bell, junior Adele Beckstead, and senior Elise Reese, who all secured singles victories. Reese’s match was particularly thrilling as she battled through three sets to claim a 3-6, 6-0, 7-5 victory.

In addition to their singles success, Philomath also secured wins in No. 1 and No. 4 doubles matches. Seniors Daniella Carlisle and Nadia Durski fought hard for a 7-5, 6-3 win, while freshman Clara Neville and sophomore Maggie King dominated with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

On the boys’ side, the Warriors faced off against Cascade in a unique pro set format, emerging victorious with a 6-2 win. Senior Andrew Leonard led the charge with a decisive 8-2 win in his singles match. The team displayed their strength in both singles and doubles matches, with seniors Sawyer Ainsworth, Gradin Fairbanks, and Osvaldo Garcia-Bazan, along with junior Jackson Holroyd, all contributing to the win.

Both the girls and boys teams are now gearing up for the district tournament, with hopes of securing a spot in the state championships. The dedication and skill displayed by the Philomath High School tennis teams are sure to make them fierce competitors in the upcoming tournaments.
