Philomusica Quartet Presents American-inspired Music

The Philomusica Quartet is set to celebrate a Vibrant Spring in a chamber concert at Wisconsin Lutheran College, featuring a diverse program that includes works by Antonín Dvorák, Jessie Montgomery, Florence Price, and a rare reconstructed chamber work by Giacomo Puccini.

The Quartet, comprised of violinists Jeanyi Kim and Alexander Mandl, violist Nathan Hackett, and cellist Adrien Zitoun, will be joined by Robert Levine, principal violist with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.

The highlight of the evening will be Dvorák’s String Quintet in E-flat Major, Op. 97, also known as the “American,” which incorporates themes and rhythms from American Indian and Afro-American music. The Quartet will also perform works by African American women composers Jessie Montgomery and Florence Price, showcasing their unique contributions to classical music.

In addition, the concert will feature a rare reconstructed chamber work by Giacomo Puccini, offering a glimpse into the composer’s early influences and style.
