LAS VEGAS (AP) — Phish kicked off their four-night residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas with a groundbreaking show that left fans in awe. The $2.3 billion arena provided the perfect backdrop for a four-hour spectacle that combined cutting-edge technology with the band’s signature sound.
Abigail Rosen Holmes, in charge of the visual show, expressed the band’s desire to create a unique experience for both longtime fans and newcomers. The use of the Sphere’s advanced technical capabilities allowed Phish to push the boundaries of what a live concert can be.
Unlike traditional Phish shows that rely heavily on lighting effects, this performance featured custom visuals on a massive 160,000-square foot 16K-by-16K LED screen. The result was a mesmerizing display of three-dimensional graphics, live video feeds, and nods to the band’s history.
Holmes, along with lighting guru Chris Kuroda, orchestrated a seamless blend of visuals and music, creating a sensory overload for the audience. The innovative use of sound technology, with 1,600 permanent speakers and 3D audio beamforming, added another layer of depth to the experience.
With every seat in the 17,500-capacity venue filled, fans were treated to a full-body immersion in Phish’s music. The incorporation of haptic technology allowed attendees to feel the music pulsating through their seats, enhancing the overall sensory experience.
Phish’s decision to limit their residency to just four shows was a deliberate choice to ensure each performance was a unique and unforgettable experience. The band’s commitment to innovation and creativity was evident throughout the show, solidifying their reputation as pioneers in the live music industry.
As the Sphere’s LED display continued to captivate onlookers with its dynamic visuals, it was clear that Phish had once again raised the bar for live performances in Las Vegas.
