Photographer Marcin Ryczek showcases minimalist work promoting peace and harmony at Jeju peace forum

Award-winning Polish photographer Marcin Ryczek is captivating world leaders and geopolitical experts with his latest exhibition, “Harmony: Marcin Ryczek’s Photography,” on display at the International Convention Center Jeju on South Korea’s Jeju Island. The exhibition, which runs from May 30 to June 14, coincides with the start of the three-day Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity.

Known for his minimalist and symbol-rich pieces that evoke a sense of peace through harmony, Ryczek’s work takes on a deeper meaning in the current global context of conflict and war. While showcasing his iconic piece “A Man Feeding Swans,” Ryczek also includes images that carry historical significance, such as “Border – road to Maidan Nezalezhnosti, Kiev – Ukraine.”

The image of a soldier crossing a white line painted on cobblestones symbolizes the idea of crossing a border with no return, a poignant reflection on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion. Polish Ambassador to South Korea, Piotr Ostaszewski, expressed how this particular image resonated with him, highlighting the importance of defending one’s boundaries in the face of aggression.

Ryczek’s metaphorical approach to photography allows viewers to interpret his images in their own way, leaving room for personal reflection and contemplation. Yang Jeongsun, curator for the Korea Foundation, praised Ryczek’s ability to spark dialogue and exploration through his photographs, aligning with the forum’s theme of “Acting Together for a Better World.”

As Ryczek’s powerful images adorn the walls of the convention center, they serve as a reminder of the importance of remembering past conflicts and striving for a more peaceful future. Through his art, Ryczek invites viewers to engage with the universal themes of peace, harmony, and the human experience.
