Azerbaijan Independence Day Celebrated in Abu Dhabi

A grand reception was held at the luxurious Rixos Marine Hotel in Abu Dhabi to commemorate Azerbaijan Independence Day on May 28. The event, as reported by Azernews, was a joint effort by the Azerbaijani Embassy in the United Arab Emirates and the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Dubai, and it was graced by the presence of the UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Mohammed Faraj Al Mazroui, as an honored guest.

The Azerbaijani Ambassador to the UAE, Elchin Bagirov, took the stage to address the distinguished guests, which included heads and representatives of diplomatic missions from various countries, local public figures, and members of the Azerbaijani Diaspora. Ambassador Bagirov delved into the rich history of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, highlighting its significance as the first democratic republic in the Muslim East. He emphasized the country’s journey to regain independence after the dissolution of the USSR, crediting the wise leadership of the national hero, Heydar Aliyev, for steering Azerbaijan towards rapid development and international prominence.

The ambassador also praised the current President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, for his continued efforts in upholding the legacy of Heydar Aliyev. He commended President Aliyev for leading the Azerbaijani army to reclaim territories that had been under Armenian occupation for nearly three decades, ensuring the country’s territorial integrity. Ambassador Bagirov noted the ongoing restoration projects in these liberated lands and Azerbaijan’s commitment to fostering sustainable peace in the South Caucasus region.

Highlighting another significant event on the horizon, the ambassador underscored the importance of the upcoming COP29 climate conference scheduled to take place in Baku in November this year. This conference is expected to bring global attention to Azerbaijan’s efforts in addressing climate change and promoting environmental sustainability.

As a symbolic gesture, the State Flag of Azerbaijan was proudly displayed on the hotel building where the celebration unfolded. The evening concluded with a mesmerizing concert featuring Azerbaijani art masters, captivating the audience with traditional music and dance performances. Guests were then treated to a delightful array of national cuisine, showcasing the rich culinary heritage of Azerbaijan.

The event served as a platform to celebrate Azerbaijan’s journey towards independence and its remarkable achievements under visionary leadership. It also highlighted the strong diplomatic ties between Azerbaijan and the UAE, fostering cultural exchange and mutual cooperation. As the evening came to a close, guests departed with a deeper appreciation for Azerbaijan’s history, culture, and contributions to the global community.
