Parkersburg’s Tennis Team Splits Matches with Morgantown

In a thrilling afternoon of tennis at City Park, the Parkersburg High School tennis team faced off against Morgantown in a split match. The Big Red boys, coming off a tough loss to Hurricane earlier in the day, rallied to secure a 4-3 victory against the Mohigans. On the girls’ side, Morgantown emerged victorious with a 5-2 win.

The match of the day featured Manny Tewodros of Parkersburg and Wyatt Abbitt of Morgantown at No. 1 singles. Tewodros put up a strong fight, taking the lead at 8-7, but Abbitt fought back to force a tiebreaker and ultimately clinch a 10-8 victory.

Despite the loss in singles, Parkersburg’s boys team bounced back in doubles play. Tewodros and Roberts secured a solid 8-3 win at two doubles, while Stutler and Taylor dominated at three doubles with an 8-3 victory.

On the girls’ side, Parkersburg faced a tough challenge with several key players missing. Despite the setbacks, the team showed resilience with wins in doubles matches. Stanley and Welshans won a tight match at two doubles, while Pritchett and Tatterson pulled off a come-from-behind victory at three doubles.

Coach Eric Stanley commended his players for their efforts, noting the challenges they faced with missing players and injuries. The team now looks ahead to the Mountain State Athletic Conference championships, where they will aim to continue their strong performance on the court.
