Pierre dominates Mitchell in doubleheader sweep – Mitchell Republic

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Mitchell High School baseball team faced another tough outing on Monday as they were swept by Pierre in a doubleheader. In Game 1, the Kernels fell 7-0, and in Game 2, they were defeated 8-2. This slow offensive start to the season has been a recurring issue for Mitchell, with the team being held to two or fewer runs in five out of seven games, including three shutouts.

Despite a valiant effort in Game 2, where the score was tied 1-1, Pierre managed to break the game open with a three-run home run by Charlie Simpson in the sixth inning. Mitchell tried to rally back with a bases-loaded walk by Kendan Skinner, but they couldn’t capitalize further on the opportunity. Pierre extended their lead with four more runs in the seventh inning.

Pitching-wise, Mason Herman put up a strong performance with seven strikeouts in five innings of work, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win for Mitchell. In Game 1, Jacob Ebert also had a solid pitching performance with six strikeouts, but the team still fell short.

With a record of 1-6, Mitchell will look to turn things around in their upcoming game against O’Gorman. The standalone seven-inning game is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Drake Field. Despite the tough losses, the Kernels remain determined to bounce back and showcase their true potential on the field.
