Pioneer High School boys tennis team finishes regular season and starts D4 CIF SJS Playoffs – Daily Democrat

The Pioneer High School boys varsity tennis team faced a tough end to their regular season with back-to-back losses, but they quickly shifted their focus to the playoffs. The Patriots hosted Antelope in the quarterfinals of the Division IV CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs, hoping to secure a win and advance further in the tournament.

Six Pioneer seniors were honored after their final regular-season match against River City, where they were defeated 9-0. Despite the loss, the team celebrated the contributions of Luke Carolan, Brady Stephens, Trevor Harryman, Luke Pool, Navreet Shergill, and Ben Quiogue. The seniors were recognized for their dedication and commitment to the team throughout the season.

In individual competition, Trevor Harryman and Brady Stephens qualified as a doubles team for the D2 CIF SJS Tournament, which is set to begin on May 13. The Patriots finished the regular season with a 12-8 overall record and a 12-3 record in Golden Empire League play.

Coach Marcail McWilliams praised the team’s performance, highlighting a standout win in doubles action by Ben Quiogue and Luke Pool. The coach also commended the team’s spirit and camaraderie, emphasizing the enjoyment and sportsmanship displayed by the players.

As the Patriots look ahead to the playoffs, they are focused on advancing past Antelope and potentially facing tough competition in the semifinals. With the support of their dedicated players and coaching staff, Pioneer High School is determined to make a strong showing in the postseason.
