Plug Achieves First International Certification for PEM Electrolyzer in Korea

Plug Power Inc. has made a significant breakthrough in the Korean market by securing the first international safety and performance certification for electrolyzer manufacturing. This achievement paves the way for the commercial sale of Plug electrolyzer systems in Korea, marking a major milestone for the company in its efforts to advance the green hydrogen economy.

The certification of Plug’s EX425D electrolyzer, capable of producing up to 425 kg of green hydrogen per day, to the Korean Gas Safety Corporation Standard AH271 is a testament to the company’s commitment to quality and innovation. This certification also extends to Plug’s manufacturing facilities in Rochester and its partner Alpha ECC’s facility in Vietnam, ensuring that the highest standards are met in the production and assembly of electrolyzer systems.

Plug CEO Andy Marsh expressed his excitement over the achievement, highlighting the company’s position as a pioneer in PEM electrolyzer technology and its readiness to support decarbonization efforts in Korea. The collaboration with SK E&S through the SK Plug HyVerse joint venture has already yielded promising results, with projects underway to support hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks and the development of hydrogen fueling stations across South Korea.

With plans to mass-produce hydrogen-powered buses by the end of the year, SK Plug HyVerse is poised to make a significant impact on the Korean market and contribute to the growth of the hydrogen sector in Asia. This certification marks a significant step forward for Plug Power Inc. and sets the stage for further expansion and success in the green hydrogen economy.
