In a shocking turn of events, a Polish man has been arrested on suspicion of spying for Russia’s military intelligence in an alleged plot to assassinate Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The man, identified only as Pawel K., was apprehended in Poland after being accused of planning to pass airport security information to Russian agents.

According to the office of Poland’s National Prosecutor, Pawel K. was seeking contact with individuals directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine and was expected to provide detailed information about the Rzeszow-Jasionka airport in south-eastern Poland. This airport serves as a crucial gateway for international military and humanitarian supplies for Ukraine, as well as for leaders and politicians traveling to and from the country. The airport is currently under the control of U.S. troops.

If convicted, Pawel K. could face up to eight years in prison. The arrest was made possible through close cooperation with Ukrainian prosecutors and security services, who provided vital evidence in the case. This incident is just one in a series of arrests of individuals accused of spying for Russia since the country’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Poland, a staunch supporter of Ukraine and President Zelenskyy, has been actively working to fend off Russian aggression in the region. The European Union member has shown solidarity with its neighbor in the face of ongoing conflict. The case is still developing, with authorities continuing to investigate the matter.
