Police are investigating a severe assault in downtown Kamloops

A violent altercation in Kamloops on Friday night has left one man in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. on the 100-block of Victoria Street, where a fight escalated from a verbal altercation to a physical confrontation involving a weapon.

According to the Serious Crime Unit (SCU) Sgt. Nestor Baird, the victim is currently in critical condition, and investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. The SCU is actively seeking information to aid in their investigation.

The assault is believed to be isolated, and the general public is not considered to be at risk. However, authorities are urging anyone with information, video footage, or who was in the area at the time of the incident to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-13046.

“We know there were lots of people in the area at the time who may have seen what happened, and we are asking anyone who has not yet spoken to police to please contact us as soon as possible,” said Sgt. Baird in a press release.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are working diligently to gather all available information to piece together the events of that fateful evening. The community is urged to come together to support the authorities in their efforts to bring justice to the victim and ensure the safety of the public.
