Police in Amsterdam University use bulldozer to stop pro-Palestine protest: Watch the video | Global News

Reading Time: < 1 minute

In a shocking turn of events, the peaceful pro-Palestine protest at Amsterdam University took a violent turn as clashes erupted between the police and protestors. The march, which started off as a show of solidarity with Palestine, quickly escalated into chaos when protestors attempted to march past the Holocaust Monument on their way to Amsterdam’s city centre.

Videos from the scene showed the police using bulldozers to remove barricades set up by the protestors, with officers wielding batons and shields to disperse the crowd. The situation further deteriorated as protestors turned hostile, getting violent and even burning an Israeli flag.

According to reports, the police detained a total of 169 people from the rally, with all but four protestors being released a few hours later. One officer reportedly suffered hearing damage during the clashes, and it is still unclear how many others may have been injured.

The University of Amsterdam, in a statement, expressed disappointment over the turn of events, stating that what was meant to be a peaceful march had turned violent due to the actions of the protestors. The police defended their use of force, stating that it was necessary to restore order and prevent further escalation.

Tensions remain high not only in the United States but also in Europe, as the pro-Palestine movement continues to gain momentum. The incident at Amsterdam University is just one of many instances where protests have turned violent, highlighting the deep-rooted emotions and conflicts surrounding the Israel-Palestine issue.
