A security guard was shot and seriously injured outside Canadian rap star Drake’s mega-mansion in Toronto early Tuesday, sparking a heavy police presence in the ritzy Bridle Path neighborhood. The shooting occurred shortly after 2 a.m. ET, with the guard suffering a gunshot wound to the upper chest and being unconscious when officers arrived.
Toronto police Insp. Paul Krawczyk stated that it is unclear whether Drake, whose real name is Aubrey Graham, was home at the time of the incident. However, police are in contact with the rapper’s team and are cooperating with the investigation. While details are limited, a police source indicated that initial reports suggest it was a drive-by shooting.
Neighbors reported hearing three or four gunshots followed by the sound of a car speeding away. The injured guard was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery. Police have recovered security camera footage capturing the incident and are gathering more surveillance video.
