Commerce man, Noor Kestou, is facing manslaughter charges in connection with a deadly explosion at a Clinton Township business in March. The explosion, which occurred on March 4, was caused by thousands of nitrous oxide and butane cans stored inside the business, Goo, owned by Kestou. The blast resulted in significant damage to nearby businesses and tragically claimed the life of 19-year-old Turner Salter, who was struck in the head by a piece of shrapnel a quarter mile from the scene.
Authorities revealed that Kestou had a one-way ticket to Hong Kong and was scheduled to depart from John F. Kennedy International Airport before being arrested. The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant, leading to Kestou’s arrest by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the New York Port Authority without incident.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido stated that Kestou is facing a charge of involuntary manslaughter, a 15-year felony, which is the highest charge that could be levied in this case. Kestou was taken into custody by Macomb County detectives, waived his extradition hearing, and was arraigned with a $500,000 bond. To post bail, Kestou must wear a GPS tether, surrender his passport, not leave the state, and not possess any weapons.
A probable cause hearing is scheduled for May 7 as Clinton Township officials continue their investigation into the explosion. Lucido expressed condolences to the family and loved ones of Turner Salter and emphasized the commitment to pursuing justice and holding the individual accountable for their actions.
