Sydney Stabbing That Killed 6 Was Not Ideological Attack, Say Cops

Sydney police have ruled out terror or ideology as a motive after a man killed six people in a random stabbing attack at a busy shopping center in the city. The incident took place at the Westfield Bondi Junction mall in the city’s east, where witnesses described the assailant, Joel Cauchi, wearing shorts and an Australian national rugby league jersey as he randomly attacked people with a knife.

The 40-year-old attacker fatally stabbed six people and injured at least 12 others before being shot dead by a senior female police officer. Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cooke stated that there is no evidence to suggest that the attack was driven by any particular motivation or ideology. It was revealed that Cauchi had a history of mental health issues and had been known to police in Queensland.

Five of the victims were women, and a nine-month-old baby was also injured in the attack. The baby is currently in serious but stable condition, while the mother tragically succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. The Royal Family expressed their condolences to the families affected by the senseless attack.
