Police Studies students extend their learning outside of the classroom

Ayrshire College Police Studies students are not just studying to become future law enforcement officers, they are actively making a difference in their community. Collaborating with David Porte from South Ayrshire Council, these students are taking part in an anti-social behaviour initiative to create a safer environment for all residents.

But their community involvement doesn’t stop there. The students are also participating in the “Beat the Street” initiative, creating walking routes with interactive “beat boxes” to encourage residents of all ages to get active and engaged in their community. This initiative promotes physical wellbeing and community spirit, showing the students’ dedication to making a positive impact.

Following the success of their “Seasonal Stroll” initiative, the students are continuing their Paths for All Green Health walk leader training. By interacting with the community and promoting wellbeing, they are enhancing their leadership skills and gaining valuable experience for their future careers in law enforcement.

Some students have even become certified leaders in the BRIT Challenge, an event aimed at improving mental health and fitness while raising funds for charities. These experiences not only enrich their CVs but also provide them with practical skills in community engagement, anti-social behaviour identification, and leadership.

Elaine Zenati, Curriculum Manager at Ayrshire College, commended the students for their dedication to making a difference in society. She emphasized the importance of education extending beyond the classroom and praised the students for actively influencing future generations.
