Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis have joined forces to push for the creation of a Europe-wide air defence system. In a letter submitted to the European Commission, the leaders emphasized the importance of a common European defence policy, especially in light of recent security concerns.

The call for a unified air defence system comes as Poland, which shares a border with Ukraine, has experienced incursions into its airspace. Tusk highlighted the need for collaboration among European countries to address the growing threats and to streamline investments in the defence industry.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed support for the proposal, emphasizing the importance of a cohesive approach to air defence. She echoed Tusk and Mitsotakis’ sentiments, calling for less fragmentation and more joint projects in the defense sector.

Tusk emphasized the need for a strong and united Europe to prevent conflicts and ensure peace. He stressed that preparing for war is essential to deter it from happening, underscoring the importance of a common defence policy.

The push for a Europe-wide air defence system reflects the growing security concerns in the region and the need for a coordinated response to potential threats. As discussions progress within the European Commission, the proposal could mark a significant step towards enhancing the continent’s security and defense capabilities.
