Poll shows majority of voters believe Donald Trump committed serious federal crimes

A recent poll conducted by the New York Times/Siena College has revealed that a majority of voters believe former President Donald Trump has committed serious federal crimes. According to the poll, 53 percent of respondents think that Mr. Trump has committed serious crimes, while 39 percent believe he has not, and nine percent were unsure or declined to answer.

The poll also showed a stark divide along party lines, with 90 percent of Democrats believing Mr. Trump has committed serious crimes, compared to only 17 percent of Republicans. Independents fell somewhere in the middle, with 49 percent agreeing with the statement.

Meanwhile, jury selection has begun in Mr. Trump’s hush money case in New York, where he faces 34 counts of falsifying business records fraud. The charges stem from allegations that he filed hush money payments as legal expenses to cover up an affair with adult actor Stormy Daniels. Mr. Trump has pleaded not guilty and denies the affair took place.

In addition to the legal troubles facing Mr. Trump, the poll also showed that President Joe Biden is closing in on him in terms of popularity. The poll, conducted between 7 and 11 April, found Mr. Trump leading by just one percentage point, with 46 percent of respondents supporting him compared to 45 percent for President Biden.

As the race tightens, the poll also revealed that a majority of respondents believe the US is heading in the wrong direction, with nearly 80 percent rating the economy as fair or poor. The upcoming election is sure to be a closely watched and highly contested affair as both candidates vie for the support of the American people.
