A devastating tornado in south China has left a trail of destruction, claiming the lives of five people and injuring 33 others. The tornado, which ripped through Guangdong province, also damaged 141 factory buildings and left many without power.
The Zengcheng District Meteorological Observatory in Guangzhou issued a tornado alert just before the disaster struck, warning residents of the impending danger. The tornado was accompanied by massive hailstones, some as large as golf balls, causing further chaos and injuries.
Photos shared by Chinese state media show the extent of the devastation, with buildings destroyed, roofs missing, and vehicles crushed by rubble. A furniture factory was completely torn apart by the tornado, adding to the widespread destruction.
Despite the significant damage, authorities reported that no homes were destroyed. However, car and building windows were shattered, and roofs were dented by the powerful storm.
This tragic event comes just a week after heavy rains and flooding claimed the lives of four people in Guangdong province. The tornado serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable and destructive power of nature, leaving communities reeling from the aftermath of the disaster.
