Prep tennis team clinches conference title with impressive performance

St. John’s Prep Eagles Clinch 30th Catholic Conference Title

The St. John’s Prep Eagles have once again proven their dominance in boys tennis by clinching their 30th Catholic Conference title in 34 years. Head coach Mark Metropolis led his squad to a perfect 13-0 overall record and a flawless 9-0 record in the league.

In a recent match against Malden Catholic, the Eagles secured a commanding 5-0 sweep, dropping just one set across all five matches. John DeAngelis, Jack Prokopis, and Luke Free dominated in singles matches, each winning in straight sets. The doubles teams of Wade Evits and Charlie Weld, as well as Chris Melville and Ciaran de Buy Wenniger, also secured decisive victories.

Earlier in the season, Coach Metropolis achieved his 500th win at St. John’s Prep, adding another milestone to his impressive coaching career. The Eagles’ success this season has been a testament to their skill and teamwork on the court.

In other boys tennis matches, Lynn Classical, Swampscott, and Lynnfield also secured victories, showcasing the talent and determination of high school tennis players in the area.

With the Catholic Conference title under their belt, the St. John’s Prep Eagles continue to soar as a powerhouse in boys tennis, setting a high standard for success in the sport.
