President Biden is optimistic that tripling tariffs on China will enhance the U.S steel industry.

The Biden Administration has taken a bold step in announcing plans for a new import tax targeting Chinese steel and materials. During a recent visit to Pittsburgh, President Biden unveiled the initiative titled “New Actions to Protect U.S. Steel and Shipbuilding Industry from China’s Unfair Practices.”

The proposed tariffs aim to safeguard American jobs and infrastructure by tripling the existing tariffs on Chinese imports. This could result in a 25% increase for some materials and a significant rise for others from 0% or 7.5%. The move is seen as a crucial step in supporting the American steel industry, which has long been a cornerstone of the nation’s economy and national security.

The Biden Administration is calling on the Office of the United States Trade Representative to consider increasing the 301 tariff rate on Chinese steel and aluminum.
