Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has taken swift action in response to a shocking assassination plot against him and other key officials. Zelenskyy dismissed the head of the state guards, Serhiy Rud, after allegations surfaced that two members of the state guard were involved in a conspiracy to assassinate him.

The State Security Service (SBU) uncovered the sinister plot earlier this week, revealing that two colonels in the state guard had planned to take Zelenskyy hostage and ultimately assassinate him. The foiled plot also targeted other important officials, including SBU head Vasyl Maliuk and Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the military intelligence agency.

The two security officials involved in the plot were detained and charged with treason, with one of them also facing charges of preparing a terrorist act. The prosecutor’s office disclosed that one suspect had received drones and ammunition from Russia’s State Security Service (FSB) to carry out an explosion.

Despite the serious allegations, Russia has not officially responded to the accusations made by the SBU. This incident comes at a challenging time for Zelenskyy’s administration, which has been grappling with corruption accusations and a stalled conflict with Russia.

In the midst of these difficulties, Zelenskyy has made significant changes within his administration, including appointing a new army chief earlier this year. The swift action taken by Zelenskyy in response to the assassination plot underscores the gravity of the situation and the ongoing challenges facing Ukraine.
