Presidents of UAE and China convene in Beijing to discuss enduring strategic partnership – Global Meeting

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates and President Xi Jinping of China met in Beijing to discuss bilateral relations and opportunities for cooperation. The leaders highlighted the deep-rooted ties between their nations and the progress made in various fields over the past 40 years.

The meeting, which took place in the Great Hall of the People, focused on celebrating the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the UAE and China. Both leaders expressed their commitment to strengthening ties in areas such as economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and international collaboration.

During the talks, His Highness and President Xi discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest. They emphasized the importance of global peace and stability, resolving conflicts through dialogue, and addressing common global challenges through international collaboration.

In particular, they reviewed developments in the Middle East, highlighting the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, protection of civilians, and sustainable humanitarian aid. They also stressed the importance of preventing regional escalation of conflicts and working towards a lasting peace based on the two-state solution.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended to him and the UAE delegation during his visit to China. He noted the longstanding relationship between the two countries, dating back to the early days of the UAE’s formation.

The UAE President recalled the historic visit of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to China in 1990, which strengthened the bilateral relationship. He also highlighted President Xi’s visit to the UAE in 2018, which led to the declaration of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

The leaders discussed the significant progress made in recent years in fields such as the economy, energy, industry, investment, and culture. China is the UAE’s top global trading partner, and there are efforts to double the volume of trade between the two countries in the coming years. The UAE is also a strategic partner in China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

President Xi hosted a banquet in honor of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and the UAE delegation, attended by both UAE and Chinese officials. The discussions and banquet further strengthened the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

Overall, the meeting between President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and President Xi Jinping underscored the importance of continued cooperation and collaboration between the UAE and China, building on their longstanding relationship and shared commitment to global peace and stability.
