Preview of Bangladesh Team for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024

Former Bangladesh coach Stuart Law has called for a rethink in the approach of the Bangladesh cricket team as they gear up for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Despite making their tournament debut in 1999 with a stunning win over Pakistan, the Bengal Tigers are yet to make a mark in the knockout stages of any World Cup.

Law, who coached Bangladesh from 2011 to 2012, believes that the current administration needs to reassess their strategies to move forward. He emphasized the need for a change in the way the game is administered in the country to bring about positive results.

The squad, led by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, is heavily reliant on experienced players like Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah. However, Law pointed out that the younger players lack the physical strength required for the T20 format, highlighting the need for better development programs.

Despite recent losses to the United States in a T20 series, Law remains optimistic about Bangladesh’s potential. He stressed the importance of talent identification and coaching to nurture young cricketers and prepare them for the senior team.

As Bangladesh prepares to face Sri Lanka in their opening match on June 7, all eyes will be on players like Shakib Al Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who are expected to play key roles in the team’s performance at the upcoming T20 World Cup. With the right approach and development, Law believes Bangladesh has the potential to become a force to be reckoned with in international cricket.
