Prince William serves as an usher at the Duke of Westminster’s wedding

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, took a break from his royal duties to serve as an usher at the wedding of his friend Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster. The lavish event, held at Chester Cathedral in northwest England, was briefly disrupted by environmental protesters.

Grosvenor, one of Britain’s wealthiest landowners, tied the knot with his partner Olivia Henson in a ceremony attended by high-society guests. As the couple emerged from the cathedral, cheers erupted from the crowd as they shared a kiss. However, the joyous moment was interrupted when two protesters sprayed orange powder from a fire extinguisher before being swiftly removed by police.

The Cheshire Police confirmed the arrest of two women, aged 69 and 73, from the group Just Stop Oil, who were demanding an end to fossil fuel extraction. Despite the disruption, the wedding continued smoothly, with Prince William fulfilling his duties as an usher.

Grosvenor, who inherited his title at a young age, is known for his vast wealth and extensive land holdings across Britain. The Grosvenor Estate, owned by his family, includes prime real estate in London and properties around the world. The 2024 Sunday Times Rich List estimated his wealth at over 10 billion pounds.

The absence of Prince William’s wife, Kate, who is undergoing cancer treatment, and his brother Prince Harry, who resides in California with his family, was noted at the event. Despite the minor disruption, the wedding of Hugh Grosvenor and Olivia Henson was a grand affair befitting of British high society.
