The main political action committee backing former President Donald J. Trump has made a bold move by joining TikTok, the popular social media platform currently embroiled in a political battle over its ownership by Chinese corporation ByteDance. Make America Great Again Inc., the independent super PAC, launched its TikTok account with the handle @MAGA, aiming to reach millions of voters with President Trump’s agenda.
Taylor Budowich, the CEO of the PAC, stated, “There’s millions of voters on TikTok, and @MAGA will deliver President Donald J. Trump’s pro-freedom, pro-America agenda every day with the facts and stories that matter. We aren’t trying to set policy, we are trying to win an election.” The account has already posted five videos, with four attacking President Biden and one targeting independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a “radical leftist.”
This move comes amidst President Biden signing a law in April that would require ByteDance to sell TikTok within nine months to avoid a ban in the United States. Former President Trump had also attempted to ban the app during his term, but now opposes the forced sale, citing potential backlash from young Americans who enjoy using TikTok.
Despite not being personally on TikTok, President Trump’s campaign is determined to spread his message across all platforms, with Budowich emphasizing, “We will not cede any platform to Joe Biden and the Democrats.” With TikTok still operational in the U.S. for now, the battle for political influence on the platform is heating up.
