Promoting Health and Drug-Free Living: 38th Awareness and Fitness Programme by Hasgulla Club to Empower Communities

The Directorate of Social Welfare in Port Blair is making strides in promoting a healthy and drug-free society through its innovative initiative, the Awareness cum Fitness Programme, also known as the Hasgulla Club. The 38th edition of this program kicked off with great enthusiasm at Joggers Park on April 27th, 2024, from 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM.

Led by Mr. Ravinder Rao, a Yoga teacher from the “Art of Living,” the program featured certified Yoga instructors and Doctors from the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), South Andaman. Participants engaged in yoga and meditation sessions, highlighting the holistic benefits of these practices in maintaining a drug-free lifestyle.

Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director of Social Welfare, emphasized the importance of the initiative in creating a vibrant and drug-free society. He stressed the significance of mental well-being alongside physical fitness and addressed the challenges faced by the youth due to drug abuse.

Dr. M.K Mahato, Doctor at IRCA, South Andaman, underscored the positive impact of yoga and meditation in combating drug addiction. He also mentioned the availability of a 24*7 helpline number for individuals seeking guidance on overcoming addiction.

The Directorate of Social Welfare invites all interested individuals to join the Hasgulla Club program, held every Saturday and Sunday at Joggers Park. This initiative aims to promote a healthier and drug-free lifestyle through fitness and awareness activities.
