Manhattan prosecutors are considering new charges against Harvey Weinstein, as they vet allegations from individuals who have accused him of sexual assault in recent years. Following the overturning of his 2020 sex crimes conviction, prosecutors are reviewing which accusations fall within the statute of limitations.

Weinstein, 72, appeared in court in a wheelchair, dressed in a dark suit, and holding a large tan book under his arm. This was the second hearing since his conviction was overturned by the New York Court of Appeals, citing errors made by the trial judge in allowing certain accusers to testify.

The former Hollywood producer had been serving a 23-year sentence for sex crimes against two women. Prosecutors have indicated their intention to retry him, with Justice Curtis Farber overseeing the case. If new charges are brought, both the court and Weinstein’s legal team will be notified.

Weinstein also faces prison time in California for rape and sexual assault convictions. His lawyer in California plans to appeal the conviction, citing the recent ruling in New York as potentially beneficial to their case.

The next hearing in the New York case is scheduled for July 9, with Farber urging both sides to avoid “pandering to the press” and emphasizing that the case will not be tried in the “court of public opinion.” As the legal proceedings continue, the fate of Harvey Weinstein remains uncertain.
