The Albanese Labor Government is making good on its promise to better measure the impact of business events on the Australian economy. Recent data has revealed that business events contributed a whopping $20.9 billion to Australia’s economy in 2023, with significant spending in various sectors such as food, accommodation, airfares, and entertainment.
To further support the business events sector, a new data dashboard has been launched by Tourism Research Australia (TRA). This interactive tool will provide valuable statistics on business events and related travel expenditure, allowing for better planning and understanding of business events travelers across Australia. The data will be updated and released quarterly, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for the industry.
The Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator Don Farrell, expressed his enthusiasm for the new dashboard, highlighting Australia’s reputation as a global business events leader. He emphasized the importance of business events in stimulating trade, investment, innovation, and productivity.
Australian Business Events Association CEO, Melissa Brown, also praised the release of the new data, noting its significance in showcasing the value of the business events industry in driving economic growth. She emphasized the crucial role that suppliers, organizers, venues, bureaux, and local communities play in supporting business events and creating jobs.
With international visitor expenditure on the rise and more visitors returning to Australia, the business events sector is poised for continued growth and success. The new data dashboard will play a key role in measuring the industry’s contribution and identifying opportunities for further development.
