Public now has access to stay in celebrity homes – Travel & Tourism News

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The trend of celebrity homes becoming tourist destinations is on the rise, with Airbnb even offering a new category called ‘Icons’ featuring famous people’s residences. Among these iconic homes open to the public are those of renowned author RK Narayan in Mysore and prolific painter Jamini Roy in Kolkata.

RK Narayan’s house in Mysore, converted into a museum by the government of India in 2016, offers visitors a glimpse into the life and works of the beloved author. The double-storey home in Yadavagiri showcases Narayan’s personal items and a collection of his literary works, including classics like Malgudi Days. The simplicity and warmth that defined Narayan’s writing style is reflected in the airy and sun-lit house, maintained by the Mysore City Corporation.

In Kolkata, Jamini Roy’s house in Ballygunge Place has been transformed into the country’s first private artist museum. Known for his minimalist style and fusion of modernism with Bengali folk heritage, Roy’s home was a hub for creative minds who would gather for intellectual discussions and view his artwork. After his passing in 1972, the house was acquired by DAG (Delhi Art Gallery) last year to preserve and showcase Roy’s life and legacy.

These celebrity homes offer a unique opportunity for fans and art enthusiasts to step into the world of these cultural icons and gain a deeper understanding of their contributions to literature and art.
