Pulitzer Prize Winner Criticizes DEI in Hollywood: Calls it ‘Garbage’

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet has never been one to hold back, and his recent comments on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) standards in Hollywood are no exception. In a scathing takedown during an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Mamet called DEI “garbage” and “fascist totalitarianism.”

Mamet, known for works such as “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “The Untouchables,” expressed his frustration with the new inclusion standards implemented by the Academy of Motion Pictures, which require films to meet certain criteria to be considered for awards.

“I can’t give you a stupid f***ing statue unless you have 7% of this, 8% of that,” Mamet said, criticizing the intrusive nature of the standards. He didn’t hold back in his criticism of those enforcing the rules either, referring to them as “diversity capos” and “diversity commissars” in his memoir.

Despite his long career in Hollywood, Mamet acknowledged that he has been pushed aside in recent years, attributing it to his age rather than his political views. He lamented that younger directors prefer to work with people closer to their own age, leaving him feeling sidelined.
