In a thrilling match at the MAC Stadium, Punjab Kings emerged victorious over Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets, thanks to the brilliant performance of their spinners Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar. Opting to bowl first, PBKS restricted CSK to just 162 for seven, with the spin duo squeezing the runs dry without conceding a single boundary.
Chasing 163 for victory, PBKS got off to a solid start with Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw playing crucial roles. Bairstow scored 46 off 30 balls, while Rossouw contributed 43 off 23 balls, ensuring their team’s fifth straight win over the five-time champions.
CSK suffered a setback early in the game when Deepak Chahar limped off the field with an injury. Despite a valiant effort from Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored 62 runs, CSK struggled to put up a defendable total.
The turning point of the match came during the middle overs when PBKS spinners Brar and Rahul bowled a miserly spell, conceding just 30 runs and taking three crucial wickets. Brar’s smart bowling saw him pick up two wickets in the eighth over, putting CSK on the back foot.
With dew settling in, CSK’s total was never going to be enough as PBKS comfortably chased down the target with contributions from Bairstow, Rossouw, Sam Curran, and Shashank Singh.
Overall, it was a dominant performance by Punjab Kings, showcasing their strength in both bowling and batting departments to secure a well-deserved victory over Chennai Super Kings.
