Purdue partners with Lilly at LEAP to enhance pharmaceutical training facility

Purdue University and Eli Lilly and Company announced a significant partnership on May 24, with Lilly investing an additional $5.3 billion in the LEAP Research and Innovation District. This brings the total investment in the Boone County manufacturing complex to $9 billion, solidifying the collaboration between the two institutions.

The LEAP District, located along the Hard-Tech Corridor between Purdue’s campuses in Indianapolis and West Lafayette, serves as a hub for cutting-edge research and development in pharmaceutical manufacturing. As part of their partnership, Purdue and Lilly have established the Lilly Scholars program, which provides talented students with full tuition scholarships, internships at Lilly, and opportunities for future employment with the company.

The inaugural class of Lilly Scholars at Purdue recently completed the 2023-24 academic year, marking a successful start to the program. Through their collaboration, Purdue and Lilly aim to enhance curricula, experiential learning opportunities, and degree programs in pharmaceutical manufacturing, ultimately expanding Indiana’s pharmaceutical industry and strengthening Purdue’s talent pipeline.

This partnership is just one of many collaborations between Purdue and Lilly, with the companies also working together on the One Health Innovation District and other strategic initiatives. The recent grants from Lilly Endowment Inc. to support Purdue’s School of Business and Purdue Computes further highlight the deepening relationship between the two institutions.
