Qianhai Welcomes the Launch of HKU Techno-Entrepreneurship Academy

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Qianhai Authority made headlines on May 8 as they unveiled the HKU Techno-Entrepreneurship Academy in Shenzhen Qianhai. This marks a significant milestone in the strategic cooperation agreement signed between the two parties in 2022, encompassing various institutes such as the Advanced Legal Research Institute and the Fintech Research Institute of the Greater Bay Area.

The Academy aims to serve as a model project for Shenzhen-Hong Kong collaboration in Qianhai, providing a platform to foster innovation and entrepreneurship among young individuals in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. The unveiling ceremony was graced by esteemed guests including government officials and university representatives, who highlighted the importance of this initiative in promoting regional exchanges and integration.

Mr. Wu Kunsheng, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, emphasized the significance of establishing an international innovation center in Qianhai and strengthening ties with Hong Kong universities. The HKU Techno-Entrepreneurship Academy is poised to breathe new life into Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation, supporting youth innovation and entrepreneurship endeavors.

Professor Max Shen, Vice-President of HKU, underscored the Academy’s role in nurturing innovative thinking and practical skills among young people, positioning them as key drivers of technological innovation and social progress. With a focus on areas like artificial intelligence and new energy, the Academy aims to become a hub for cutting-edge research and development in the Greater Bay Area.

The HKU Techno-Entrepreneurship Academy, set to open in early July, will offer a range of services for young tech talent and scientists, aiming to set a new standard for innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. With its ambitious goals and commitment to excellence, the Academy is poised to make a lasting impact on the region’s innovation landscape.
